Simulation Methods for Process Modeling
The use of simulation techniques on various scales is nowadays an important aspect of materials science and process modeling. In this course, an introduction to the main simulation methods and corresponding software tools will be given, with hands-on exercises for scale bridging applications. The course covers the range from atomic scale to macroscopic modeling.
The main topics of this course are:
- First principle (ab initio) method
- Molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo
- Thermodynamic modeling
- Precipitation kinetics
- Phase field methods for microstructure evolution
- Finite element method
- Crystal plasticity
- Homogenization methods
- Damage mechanics
